A spray dryer is a device used to convert a liquid or slurry into a dry powder by rapidly drying it with a hot gas. It is one of the most commonly used drying methods in industries such as food processing, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and ceramics industries.
In a spray drying process, the liquid feed is first atomized into fine droplets by using a nozzle or rotary atomizer. These droplets are then introduced into a chamber with hot air, where they quickly lose moisture and form dry particles. The dried product is typically collected at the bottom of the chamber or via a cyclone separator.
Spray drying offers several advantages, including fast drying, good control over particle size and moisture content, and the ability to preserve the quality and bioactivity of heat-sensitive materials.
